What have people said about us?
Apprenticeship programmes have transformed the hiring process for junior marketing staff for me, offering undeniable benefits such as increased productivity, cost-effectiveness, and fresh perspectives. The apprentices’ willingness to learn injects new life into the team and improves management and marketing skills. Partnering with companies like The Marketing Trainer enhances the success of apprentices, making it a game-changing strategy for businesses.
The Marketing Trainer has supported our business by offering apprenticeships in digital marketing and customer care. This has been a great way to scale our business whilst being able to offer opportunities to students who want to learn and succeed in what they are doing within our business. Mitch is an enthusiastic teacher, an excellent communicator, a consummate professional in his field, and importantly was excellent at supporting our apprentices and the businesses’ needs.

How does funding work?
Funding apprenticeships can go one of two ways, either through Co-Investment or Levy Contributions.
Larger companies
If your organisation’s annual wage bill exceeds £3 million (typically more than 100 employees), you’re required to pay 0.5% into a Levy fund to support training and apprenticeships.
But here’s the catch—if you don’t use these funds within 24 months, they’re lost. Every year, thousands of businesses miss out on this opportunity. Make sure that’s not you!
Smaller Companies
If your organisation’s annual wage bill is under £3 million, you’ll immediately get a 95% discount on apprenticeship course costs—yes, 95%! The UK government covers most of the cost if you have fewer than 50 employees.
But it gets even better…
✅ If you have under 50 employees & hire someone 21 or younger, the government covers 100% of the course cost—that’s £11,000!
✅ If you hire a 16-18-year-old, you’ll also get a £1,000 incentive.
Cost breakdown
Course |
Levy |
Co-investment 50 or more staff (95% funded) |
Co-investment of less than 50 staff (95% – 100% funded) |
---|---|---|---|
Multi-Channel Marketer | £11,000 | £475 – £550 | It could cost you nothing* |
Market Research Executive | £8,000 | £350 – £400 | It could cost you nothing* |
*If you hire
- A 16 to 21 year old;
- Or a 19 to 24-year-old with an education, health and care plan provided by their local authority or has been in the care of their local authority.
Additionally, if you take on an apprentice who is between 16 – 18 years old, you’ll be eligible for a £1,000 cash incentive.

So, what would you end up paying?
Here are two examples to quickly break down some possibilities.
Example 1 – (Smaller companies)
If you hire a 16 – 21-year-old and have fewer than 50 employees, the apprenticeship will be fully funded by the UK government, meaning you’ll simply have to pay the apprentice’s salary (typically £15,000 – £20,000, depending on who you want to hire). That’s all. If the apprentice is 16 – 18, you’d also be eligible for the £1,000 incentive payment.
Example 2 (Larger companies)
If you hire someone who is 22 years old or more, or you have 50 or more employees, you would be responsible for paying a 5% contribution towards the apprenticeship. Typically, this will be around £475 – £550.
