The basics

Title: Marketing & Communications Apprentice

Location: Chelsea, London, SW3 (Office-based)

Working hours: Total time on site is 42 hours per week. 37 paid working hours per week, 5 days out of 7, plus a 1-hour unpaid lunch break each working day.

Working pattern: Some evening and weekend work may be required

Contract: Fixed-term apprenticeship contract (15 months)

Salary: £30,950 per annum

Apprenticeship: Level 3 Multi-Channel Marketer

Qualifications: Free CIM Foundation Certificate worth £600+

Start date: To be confirmed

Security: This role will be subject to security clearance

Our client is a high-profile museum and visitor attraction based in Chelsea, London. The organisation welcomes a broad range of visitors and delivers exhibitions, events, educational activity, digital content and public engagement programmes.

The successful candidate will join the audience and engagement team, supporting the organisation’s marketing, communications and digital content activity. This is a strong opportunity for someone who is creative, organised and interested in building a career in marketing within the heritage, museum or visitor attraction sector.

 

About the Role

This Marketing & Communications Apprentice role will support the delivery of digital marketing, social media, content creation and communications activity across a range of channels.

The apprentice will help create and edit content for social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, TikTok and other digital channels. A key part of the role will involve producing engaging short-form video, photography and written content to promote exhibitions, events, visitor experiences, retail, café and wider organisational activity.

The role will also support paid marketing campaigns, digital reporting, press and influencer visits, and collaborative destination marketing activity with local partner organisations.

This would suit someone with a genuine interest in social media, digital storytelling, history, museums, visitor attractions and creative communications.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will support with:

Social Media and Digital Marketing

  • Assisting with the day-to-day management and monitoring of social media channels.
  • Helping to plan, schedule and publish social media content.
  • Creating engaging content for organic and paid social media campaigns.
  • Supporting social media activity across Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, Pinterest and YouTube.
  • Working with internal teams to gather content ideas, stories and updates.
  • Supporting collaborative marketing activity with local partner organisations.
  • Researching social media trends, content ideas and new digital approaches.
  • Helping to identify relevant online communities, pages and accounts to support content reach.

Content Creation and Digital Assets

  • Creating and editing photography, video and audio content for digital channels.
  • Producing short-form vertical video content for social media and advertising.
  • Capturing content using phones, DSLR cameras, microphones and other basic filming equipment.
  • Editing content using tools such as CapCut, Adobe Premiere, Photoshop and other creative software.
  • Creating promotional content for exhibitions, events, retail, café, family activities and visitor experiences.
  • Ensuring content is produced on time and in line with campaign plans and key messages.
  • Following brand, tone of voice, design and editorial guidelines.

Copywriting and Editorial Support

  • Writing and editing social media posts and digital copy.
  • Helping to populate and maintain the digital content calendar.
  • Working with colleagues to uncover stories, updates and content opportunities.
  • Supporting staff and stakeholders with guidance on creating effective digital content.
  • Helping to tell stories from a wide range of voices and perspectives.
  • Supporting content for paid campaigns across digital platforms.

Communications, Press and Influencer Activity

  • Assisting with the coordination of press, film crew and influencer visits.
  • Supporting online enquiries and social media messages in a professional and timely manner.
  • Helping to manage feedback from the public, stakeholders and subject specialists.
  • Supporting positive relationships with internal teams, external partners and visitors.

Reporting and Audience Insight

  • Monitoring social media engagement and digital performance.
  • Helping to gather and interpret digital data and audience insights.
  • Supporting the production of reports for internal teams and stakeholders.
  • Researching best practice in digital engagement and communications.
  • Using data to help improve future content and campaign planning.

Wider Responsibilities

  • Working safely and professionally in line with organisational policies and procedures.
  • Supporting equality, accessibility and inclusive practice.
  • Helping to protect and promote the organisation’s reputation.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across departments.
  • Supporting efficient, cost-effective working and good use of resources.
  • Travelling to other organisational sites or external locations when required.

 

Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Right to live and work in the UK.
  • Achieved 4/C and above in GCSE English and maths or equivalents.
  • A genuine interest in marketing, communications and digital content.
  • An interest in museums, heritage, history or visitor attractions.
  • Experience or a strong interest in creating social media content.
  • Some experience creating or editing video content for social media.
  • A basic understanding of major social media platforms.
  • Strong copywriting, editing and communication skills.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to work to deadlines.
  • The confidence to work collaboratively with different teams.
  • The ability to self-motivate and use initiative.
  • An interest in learning how data and analytics can improve content planning.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • An interest in using creative tools such as CapCut, Photoshop, Premiere or similar software.
  • Enthusiasm, curiosity and a willingness to learn.

 

Desirable

  • Ideally educated to degree level in a relevant subject such as business, humanities, graphic design, journalism, marketing, communications, media or a related discipline. Candidates with A Levels or equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Familiarity with Mac operating systems.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite or similar creative tools.
  • Interest in British history or military history.
  • Willingness to travel to other sites when required.

 

About the Apprenticeship

Alongside the role, the successful candidate will complete the Level 3 Multi-Channel Marketer apprenticeship.

This apprenticeship is designed to develop practical marketing skills across areas such as:
