Background: A Need for Consistency and Strategic Direction
Women’s Aid Luton has long been a vital organisation supporting women and families affected by domestic abuse. However, like many charities, managing communications alongside core service delivery was proving increasingly difficult.
“Before Amanda joined, our social media and communications lacked consistency and strategic direction,” explains Gaby, Managing Director of Women’s Aid Luton. “We had roles in place in the past, but for several months there had been no one dedicated to the role. As a result, social media responsibilities fell to the Senior Leadership Team, which was far from ideal given their other priorities.”
The charity recognised that its visibility and impact depended on clear, engaging, and consistent messaging — something that couldn’t be achieved without a dedicated marketing professional. They needed someone who could not only manage campaigns but also align communications with the organisation’s mission and values.
That’s when Gaby decided to bring in a Multi-Channel Marketer apprentice through The Marketing Trainer — someone who could grow into the role while bringing a fresh, creative perspective to the organisation.
Building Momentum: Amanda Joins the Team
From her first day, Amanda quickly became an integral part of Women’s Aid Luton’s marketing function. With structured support from The Marketing Trainer and guidance from the internal team, she took ownership of key communications channels, from social media and newsletters to website content and campaign management.
“Amanda has been an exceptional addition to our team and has made a tangible difference from the very start,” says Gaby. “She has brought structure, consistency, and creativity to our marketing, ensuring that our messaging across social media and our website is engaging, regular, and aligned with our values.”
One of Amanda’s standout achievements was her involvement in the charity’s Big Give fundraising campaign, where her efforts helped raise over £8,500. Her ability to translate training into practical impact showcased the true value of apprenticeship learning — blending theoretical knowledge with hands-on results.
Beyond campaigns, Amanda implemented more strategic scheduling, improved visual consistency, and developed a stronger tone of voice for the organisation’s content — ensuring every post and message aligned with Women’s Aid Luton’s mission to support women and raise awareness of domestic abuse.
Growth and Development: From Learner to Leader
Over the course of her apprenticeship, Amanda demonstrated remarkable personal and professional growth.
“Since joining us, Amanda has shown tremendous growth in confidence, skill, and professional maturity,” Gaby notes. “She combines a strong understanding of marketing and communications with an eagerness to learn and improve.”
Her curiosity and commitment to professional development saw her complete her Level 3 Multi-Channel Marketer apprenticeship with a Distinction, as well as earning a Merit in the CIM Foundation Certificate in Professional Marketing — an impressive achievement that reflects both her ability and dedication.
Amanda’s confidence, initiative, and creative thinking have made her a trusted voice within the organisation, demonstrating how apprentices can develop into capable professionals who make a lasting difference.
Lasting Impact: A Positive Experience with Apprenticeships
The success of the apprenticeship programme has reshaped how Women’s Aid Luton views apprenticeships.
“Our experience with apprenticeships has been extremely positive — we currently have two apprentices, and both have made significant contributions to the success of Women’s Aid Luton,” says Gaby. “Although we are a small team with limited capacity, we would certainly consider hiring another apprentice in the future. Apprentices bring fresh perspectives, enthusiasm, and a real willingness to learn.”
By investing in emerging talent through apprenticeships, Women’s Aid Luton has revitalised its communications strategy, strengthened its brand presence, and empowered a new generation of marketers to grow through purpose-driven work.
Conclusion
Women’s Aid Luton’s journey with Amanda is a clear example of how apprenticeships can deliver measurable value — not just by filling a gap, but by building capability, creativity, and lasting impact. Through structured training, real-world experience, and the right support, Amanda helped transform the organisation’s marketing efforts and left a legacy that continues to shape how the charity connects with its community.
