How Much Support Do Marketing Apprentices Need?

This tool estimates how much time you’ll realistically need to manage a marketing apprentice and highlights whether your setup is strong, workable, or likely to cause issues.

Thinking About Hiring A Marketing Apprentice? Let’s Put You To The Test.

Use this tool to get a realistic sense of how much time and support an apprentice is likely to need from you as their manager. It is designed to challenge the idea that apprentices need constant hand-holding for 12 months and show whether your current setup looks strong, workable, risky, or not right yet. Simply answer each question based on how things would actually work in your business, not how you would like them to look on paper. The more honest you are, the more useful the result will be.

How much manager time will this actually take?

This gives a realistic view of how much support an apprentice is likely to need and whether your setup looks strong, workable, risky, or just not right yet.

Be honest with it. This isn’t about perfection. It’s about whether the role, support, and day-to-day setup are likely to make things smooth or painful.

1. Who are you most likely to bring into the role?

This lightly affects how much support they may need early on.

2. Who will be managing them day to day?

This is one of the biggest factors in how smooth things feel.

3. How clear is the role right now?

Vague roles usually create more interruptions and repeated explanations.

4. How much time will you realistically spend with them each week?

This is about the support you genuinely expect to give, especially early on.

5. What sort of work will they mainly be helping with?

This has a small impact. Heavier writing or campaign work tends to need a bit more oversight early on.

6. How much structured support will they get outside of your business?

This could be your training provider, internal L&D, or any structured programme that reduces how much you need to teach day to day.

7. What’s already in place for them to plug into?

The more structure you already have, the less time gets wasted on making things up as you go.
Answer all the main questions first, then run the calculator.
