Building brand consistency and capacity through marketing apprenticeships
The situation: A growing marketing need and a stretched team
As Skills4Pharmacy continued to grow, so too did their need for consistent, high-quality marketing support. With increasing demands on the communications team and limited internal capacity, Marketing and Communications Manager Steven Garratt found his team stretched thin.
“We were really feeling the pressure,” Steven explains. “Our existing team simply didn’t have the capacity to deliver everything we needed — especially with marketing demands ramping up. We needed someone eager to get stuck in and learn quickly.”
Recognising an opportunity to grow their own talent while contributing to someone’s career journey, Skills4Pharmacy decided to bring in a marketing apprentice through The Marketing Trainer.
The solution: Bringing in a motivated apprentice through The Marketing Trainer
Enter Daniel — With a genuine interest in marketing and a proactive mindset, Daniel quickly became an integral part of the team.
“Dan has been a fantastic addition,” Steven says. “He’s helped define our brand and make it more consistent both online and offline. He even organised our latest event entirely on his own, from start to finish.”
Daniel’s background in IT and design made him a great fit for marketing, allowing him to blend creativity with strategy — exactly what the role required. The apprenticeship offered him exposure to a wide range of marketing areas, from campaign planning to analytics, giving him both breadth and depth of knowledge.
The Apprentice’s Perspective: Daniel’s journey
“Marketing felt like the perfect fit because it’s fast-paced, innovative, and allows you to use creativity strategically,” Daniel says. “This apprenticeship gave me a strong foundation and helped me find what I enjoy most within the field.”
Over the course of the programme, Daniel learned to plan and execute full campaigns, set clear objectives, and evaluate performance using marketing models and KPIs. Through support from The Marketing Trainer, he also developed the confidence to take ownership of major projects.
“I’ve gained a huge amount of knowledge,” he shares. “The training helped me become more structured in how I plan and deliver campaigns. I’ve also become much more confident working independently — it’s made me far more effective in my role.”
A standout project was managing the marketing for Skills4Pharmacy’s presence at the Clinical Pharmacy Congress 2025 — one of their largest events of the year.
“I’m really proud of that one,” Daniel reflects. “We boosted our email and social media KPIs by 50% and increased leads by over 150% compared to the previous year. It felt amazing to see the impact of my work so clearly.”
The results: Real growth, real impact
Daniel’s contributions quickly translated into real value for the business — not just in terms of workload relief, but in measurable results and increased marketing performance.
“His confidence has truly blossomed,” Steven notes. “He’s taken on more complex tasks like running paid social ads and managing our organic social media presence. He’s also become much more proactive and solutions-focused.”
The success of Daniel’s apprenticeship led Skills4Pharmacy to double down on the model.
“Absolutely, we’d hire another — and we have. We’ve already recruited a second marketing apprentice through The Marketing Trainer,” Steven shares. “Our experience with Dan has been overwhelmingly positive. As an apprenticeship provider ourselves, it’s really reinforced how valuable apprenticeships can be.”
Looking ahead
For Skills4Pharmacy, the apprenticeship hasn’t just solved a short-term resourcing issue — it’s opened the door to long-term brand growth, fresh ideas, and in-house talent development.
“This apprenticeship has developed me a lot, especially in terms of confidence,” Daniel adds. “The skills I’ve gained — from campaign planning to content creation and data analysis — have made me ready for more senior responsibilities. It’s made me ambitious to keep growing as a marketer.“
“The benefits of having a dedicated, eager-to-learn individual on the team, combined with the support structure of the apprenticeship programme, has been invaluable.”
